Located near Sherbrooke, Camping du Pont Couvert opened its first sites in 1966-67. The campground began on a dairy farm owned by Mr. Howard Smith.
1966Seven years later, Mr. Smith subdivided the property, keeping a few acres for his residence and the farm buildings. The remaining part, which included the campground, was sold to Mr. Arnold Bell.
1973From 1974 to 1980, Mr. Bell operated approximately fifty seasonal lots at the campground. Mr. Claude Leblanc followed suit, managing the campground from 1980 to 1983.
1974Next, Mr. René Lapelletière enhanced the campground by adding approximately fifty additional lots between 1983 and 1987. He also expanded the welcome area and convenience store, as well as installing showers and restrooms adjacent to the community room and the pool.
1983In 1987, Mr. Armand Cloutier became the owner of the campground. He built a two-story house, with the ground floor serving as a workshop and office for the campground. Despite the Cloutier family's dedicated efforts, health challenges led the owners to shift the campground's focus, allowing only guests aged fifty and older.
1987In April 2002, Mr. Bernard Houle and Mrs. Marie-Claude Fortin-Poulin purchased the campground, reopening it to campers of all ages. They also restored the existing farm from the 1960s. The integration of agricultural activities in the vicinity and the landscape of the campground adds a unique charm. Features like forest management, hay harvesting, various machinery, and the presence of animals (donkeys and horses) reinforce the rural character of the campground's surroundings.
2002In April 2017, Messrs. D'Anjou and Côté acquired the campground, which they subsequently sold to Mr. Martin Binette and Ms. Sylvie Bellavance and Marie-Laurence Binette in September of the same year. They are now brimming with ideas and a strong determination to promote this exceptional place even further!
